Therapy Is A Journey Into Your Life’s Story

Your journey, beginning with birth, is a collection of stories remembered consciously and felt unconsciously that have accumulated and led you where you are today.  How you see yourself, how you see others, and how you see the world is a culmination of this collection of stories that have both served you and limited you over the past years.

You Make Sense

And let us just say this before getting into the neuroscience of the brain:  YOU MAKE SENSE.  Stop and read that again.  You. Make. Sense.  Everything you do makes sense, even things that you look back over and think, Why on earth did I do that?  Why do I feel this way?  Why can’t I shake this?  Why can’t I stop this?  Your brain and body have been biologically designed and then further conditioned by a variety of experiences to survive this life.  Now, survival doesn’t necessarily mean healthy or easy or happy, it just means you survived.

As therapists, we are simply joining your story.  As we share the time together, we are not only hearing you, watching you, and learning you, we are “being” with you.  When we can begin to see your life through your eyes, we are no longer on the outside of your story looking in, but we are now on the inside of your story with you looking out.  This is when the transformative healing power of therapy begins.

In the safe space of therapy, we will look with curiosity over your life experiences to discover why your brain and body operate the way they do.

This can include recurring periods of depression, anxiety, obsessive-compulsive disorders, dissociations. mood dysregulation, relational instability, behavioral instability including addictions, and other current life experiences you deem problematic.

We will first uncover the underlying patterns that are created from your core fears, core pains, and core beliefs.  We will then explore your coping behaviors, ones that serve, limit, or even harm you.  We will then challenge the patterns and behaviors that are limiting, and replace them with empowering beliefs and behaviors that will honor who you truly are.

It sounds simple.  And truly it is.

But it is also incredibly complex as we look intently at what has made you, you. It will take time, energy, perseverance, and ultimately courage. True, authentic change always does. But with the compassionate guidance of your therapist, you are not alone.
